Most, if not all of the Draughons in the Tallahassee area are descendants of Presey and Anne Bell Draughon. They originally lived in the Dothan, Samson and Slocomb areas of southeast Alabama. In about 1937 they moved to St. Andrews in Panama City, Florida. Shortly after WWII my father Leo was the first to move to Tallahassee. In 1946 Presey, Anne Bell and Jo also moved to Tallahassee and in the next few years the rest of the family followed. The men in the family were in the construction business, starting out as brick masons, a trade they all learned from their father Presey. The exception, William (Short) Draughon settled in California and had a career in the U.S. Air Force and later as a peace officer.

Presey and Anne Bell loved fishing and as the picture on the home page indicates, they were quite good at it. In fact a similar picture was once on the cover of a popular fishing magazine. In the 1950’s they lived in a cottage on Lake Talquin and ran the bait & tackle shop in the picture which was located on West Tennessee Street.

This page is a work in progress, please visit again for more. And if you have some history of the Draughon Family you want to share please email it to me.
